8 May 2010
OK, so first of all, we must apologise for the lack of updates on the website, things have just been so busy for us lately, what with our endeavours to get the shop open, along with keeping up with all of the students, who have been amazing.
So - here goes, the announcement everyone has been waiting for - the shop will be opening on Saturday 15 May 2010. We look forward to welcoming you there. We plan to have a bit of an open day on Saturday with drinks and nibbles, and everyone is welcome between 10.00am and 4.00pm and we hope you will be able to make it.We are located at the former L'Ancresse Village Stores, and if you don't know where that is, pass the Vale Church on your left on the L'Ancresse road and we are about 100m up on the right hand side. Once the signs are up, you won't miss us. There is a small car park at the back, up a short drive, just to the right of the shop as you face it.
We will be having a prize draw, at £1.00 a ticket with all proceeds to Project Aware.
26 April 2009 - London Marathon
After struggling with injury, Steve made it on to the startline of the Flora London Marathon.
When we left the island on the Friday, we were in serious doubt as to whether he would even start the race, as he couldn't even manage to run across a road, let alone a marathon! So our Saturday was spent in Chinatown, in the basement surgery of a Chinese doctor, with Steve receiving acupuncture.
Well, the acupuncture did the trick and on Sunday morning we were at the start of the world famous London Marathon. Steve set off very slowly, trying to look after his calf injury, but after the first nine miles he began to trust that it would hold out and picked up the pace a little. He made it to the finish in 4 hours and 7 minutes, quite a bit slower than he had hoped, but when the injury and the heat are taken into account, not a poor performance at all. Just finishing was the most important thing, and between them, the team of three Guernsey runners raising funds for the charity "Round Table Children's Wish", raised in the region of £5,000.00.

15 March 2009 - Cross Country Inter-Insular
On Sunday 15th March, Steve represented Guernsey in the annual inter insular cross country running event, running for the super veterans (50+). Steve thoroughly enjoys all his running, which he has only been doing since the summer of 2006 in an effort to improve his fitness ready for his PADI Divemaster and Instructor courses and exams. He continues to maintain his fitness so that he can take the best care of his students. He would be delighted to go for some runs with students in the summer if anyone is interested; perhaps a cliff run with a snack at one of the tearooms as a treat at the end, or the flatter costal paths and a cup of coffee and ice cream at one of the kiosks. If you might be interested, let us know and we will do our best to arrange something.
The inter insular went very well, in glorious sunshine, and although Jersey won the individual super veteran event, Guernsey came out on top in the team event. The rest of the Guernsey team did extremely well and the full results will be available at www.guernseyathletics.org.gg.
12 March 2009 - Havelet Bay
Steve headed down to Havelet on a very low spring tide on 12 March.
The low tide was one of the lowest of the year at 0.4m; the lowest of
the year will occur in August at 0.3m.
Looking at the bay on a low tide is very interesting as it enables you
to see what you could be diving through in the bay when it is covered
with water from a completely different perpective. This photograph is
of the kelp along the wall, which on a high tide you can dive through,
or over, like flying through a forest – brilliant!
Unfortunately some ignorant people consider our coastline to be a bit of a dumping ground, and there are items such as these springs sitting on the bottom. On International Cleanup day on 19 September 2009, Donkey Divers welcomes all certified divers to help with cleaning the bay, and maybe we can find some way of getting these springs off the bottom. More details to follow.
25 December 2008 - Christmas Day Harbour Dive
6 divers turned out for the Christmas Day harbour dive, meeting bright and early at 8.00am, ready to dive at 9.00. Christmas Day is the only day of the year when recreational divers are permitted to explore the harbour, and all divers are closely monitored by harbour control, maintaining a constant radio contact with the divers’ surface support. The dive was followed by tea, coffee and mince pies. It is planned that the harbour dive will become an annual event, so if you weren’t there this time, we hope to see you on 25/12/09 – you will feel like you have earned your Christmas lunch!
14 December 2008 - Santa Fun Run
Steve and his elder daughter Dionne took part in the Santa Fun Run, raising funds for the charity “Aid Reaching Children”. It is hoped that Donkey Divers will be able to put a team in this run next year, so bear it in mind and dust off your running shoes in plenty of time
21 October 2008 - Radio Guernsey Children in Need auction
We have donated an Open Water course to Radio Guernsey to auction for Children in Need. Children in Need is on November 14th this year. Radio Guernsey will be auctioning this and other items that week.
